Pandurangadu tells the story of Pundarika Ranganathudu (Nandamuri Balakrishna). He is a young man who likes the idea of Lord Krishna (also played by Nandamuri Balakrishna). However, he does not understand what true devotion means. Pundarika lives in a small village. His family wants him to have good values. Instead, he ignores his parents and behaves ruthlessly. Even though he sings songs about Krishna, he does not follow the God's teachings in his own life. When his family asks him to marry, Pundarika runs away. He eventually returns home, which confuses his family. In a nearby village, there is a woman named Lakshmi (Sneha). She is a staunch devotee of Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna appears in her dream and tells her to marry Pundarika. Pundarika refuses at first, but Lakshmi convinces him, and they get married. Soon, a beautiful dancer named Amrutha (Tabu) arrives in the village. Pundarika becomes obsessed with her. He gives her all the gold from his house. Later, Amrutha’s mother tricks him with a magic potion. This makes him act strangely, and he loses all his money. Because of his bad behaviour, Pundarika ends up far from home. He even insults a saint and receives a curse. The rest of the movie shows how Pundarika learns about devotion and responsibility. He faces many hard challenges. Does he understand his mistakes?
