Yamakaathaghi has its plot set in a village near Thanjavur. The story revolves around Leela (Roopa Koduvayur), the daughter of the village head Selvaraj (Raju Rajappan). Leela has struggled with asthma since childhood. She feels suffocated by her father’s rigid adherence to traditional customs. Also, there is a mysterious locked room in their house that her grandmother warned should never be opened. One day, after a heated argument with her father, Leela is found dead. Her status-conscious family tries to pass this event off as a natural asthma-related death. However, during her funeral, the narrative takes a supernatural turn when her corpse inexplicably refuses to be moved from the house. This defiance forces the family and the villagers to confront their own guilt and buried secrets. As fear spreads, it is revealed that Leela had been in a relationship with Anbu (Narendra Prasath), a man from a different caste, leading to a series of shocking revelations about family honour, betrayal, and the lengths people go to protect their reputation. The other actors in the movie are Geetha Kailasam, Haritha, Pradeep Durairaj, and Subash Ramasamy.
